Copsa Mica, Romania

COPSA MICA, ROMANIA- MAY 19: A young gypsy woman looks through a window in the town of Copsa Mica, Romania, May 19, 2008. The children of the town have twice more lead in their blood than the normal rate leading to a host of physical ailments at an early age.
The town is known for its status (in the 1990s) as one of the most polluted in Europe. This was due to the emissions of a carbon black factory and a smelter plant whose emissions have contributed to significantly higher incidence of lung disease and impotence, along with a life expectancy nine years below Romania's average.(photo by Lisa Wiltse/Getty Images)
